Jammed Lock Rescue Mission

Well, today we went off to see friends who are moving their boat to a different marina on the Shropshire Union. They want to start exploring new parts of the system so a different will enable them to do this. We are hoping to be down to visit them in just over a month after the lock gates have been repaired part of the winter stoppages.

They had a bit of a scare on the way at Grindley Brook Lock after the gate got jammed. They phoned Canal & River Trust requesting assistance twice, but no one came. We decided to go and help after a very distressed phone call from them saying they we trapped in a lock with huge amounts of water coming in and by this time it was pitch black and really icy. Eventually with torches we got the boat out and found it had been a huge rock blocking gate from moving and jamming it open. The amount of water it was letting in was amazing and can see why they were so concerned but we got them out into the lock pound for the night.

Ours plans for the year start with a trip to Llangollen before we leave the canal for pastures new. We have moored in Ellesmere for two years and never got further than Trevor and the aqueduct as always so busy. We are hoping it being winter we will have an enjoyable trip and see the place all these hire boats go to!
